Click on image to nominate a blog to the PBAThe Iloilo Bloggers hosts the Visayas Division of the Philippine Blog Awards (PBA) 2010, which is an established event in the blogging community. The PBA recognizes notable blogs all over the Philippines. On the evening of November 27, the PBA will have its awards night at The Venue in Smallville, which many of Iloilo’s bars and restaurants are located.

For the Visayas Division, the PBA is now accepting blog nominations. Anyone can nominate any blog to any category as long as the blog owner has accepted the nomination. For the Visayas Division the blogger must be Visayan or based in the Visayas. The nomination page at the PBA site also includes links to the terms and conditions of the competition as well as eligibility and guidelines.

The PBA will be held at The Venue, which is the official co-presentor of the Philippine Blog Awards. The Venue is part of the group of restaurants and bars owned by Great Foods Concepts, Inc., which also operates Coffeebreak, Green Mango, Bauhinia, Mojave Steak and Grill, and Nothing But Desserts, located at The Avenue, Smallville Complex, Diversion Road, Iloilo City.

It was during Dinagyang 2010, while having lunch with Iloilo Bloggers, that seasoned travel bloggers, Enrico Dee of Byahilo.com and Bernie Arellano of HabagatCentral.com suggested a summit for bloggers in the Visayas region. They wanted to create a venue for bloggers all over the Visayas region to come together, socialize and share knowledge. In response, the Iloilo Bloggers share the same vision of uniting Visayan bloggers for personal and professional enrichment.

Unlike Luzon and Mindanao, the Visayas region does not yet have a solid community of bloggers. Although there are separate groups, such the Cebu Bloggers and Negros Bloggers. Through the Visayas Blogging Summit (VBS) 2010, all these groups as well as bloggers who were not members of any group unite into one community. During the VBS, bloggers from all over Visayas as well as invited guests from Luzon and Mindanao will convene in Iloilo City for a two-day event. Local and national delegates benefit from the vast experience and knowledge of VBS speakers who are seen as experts in their fields.

The goal of the Visayas Blogging Summit is to gather ideas from bloggers and explore the potential impact of blogging on society, business and politics in the Visayas and beyond. Considered as new media, blogging proved itself a strong marketing medium as well as a political channel that connects the company or person with their intended audience, something TV and radio do not provide.

For this reason, many businesses have signified their interest in sponsoring the event. Some have even gone as far as offering their full services in return for a portion of the pie in online advertising. The Summit’s co-presentor is SM City Iloilo, which provided us the use of their Cinema 2 for the whole day of November 27. Other major sponsors for VBS include Bourbon Street, Ted’s Lapaz Batchoy, Bluejay Coffee and Deli, Crave Burger, Tibiao Fish Spa, Nokia, and Sunsilk by Unilever Philippines. Yehey.com is our official online media partner. Days Hotel is our official hotel partner. Globe will be our official WiFi provider.

About The Logo

Visayas Blogging Summit 2010 LogoDuring the planning stage, the organizers brainstormed for ideas on how the VBS logo should look like. They wanted a symbol that is unique to the Visayas. It was then they realized that almost all provinces in the Visayas honor the Santo Niño through festive dance. The dancers commonly grease their skin black to look like the Atis, which were the aboriginal tribesmen who met the Spanish conquerors on the shores of Aklan.

In honor of our past, the head of an Ati partially completes the VBS logo. In recognition of our present, the Ati has a laptop, which also symbolizes bloggers. The visage of the Ati is not immediately recognizable as young or old, but the logo has a cartoonish appearance. The logo’s design caters to the tastes of the young generation, which makes up majority of bloggers today.
